I was trying to find out the significance of the number plate on Christine..........CQB 241....

Does it stand for anything.?,,,,relevant to anything? or is it just a random number?

the book car number plate is HY-6241-J which has the "241"

just got me thinking,, anyone anyone

According to the guy that's writing the feature in next month's Classic American Magazine.... he heard this reasoning:

"The license plate of Christine reads begins with ‘CQB’, supposedly anacronym for "Close Quarters Battle"."

I don't know where he heard that from?

"Under the bonnet there’s a 350ci Golden Commando dual carb engine as oftenfitted to the Fury, but that was also an option on Belvederes, and you /could/buy a Belvedere in red and white. "

The rumour of the "CQB = Close Quarters Battle" was started a few years after the film came out. As it was postulated by a source with NO connection to the film I always thought it was made up afterwards....but it's a half-decent explaination all the same.

There was no CQ prefixes on Californian registered cars so no legal hassles for the producers.
"CQB" was apparently US-Marine speak for "Close Quarters Battle" and "241" is self explanatory when you say it (talk about and eye for an eye).

You can't have that rego in WA as I had/have it on retention already before the car (tragic I know), maybe go for "CQB 446" as your 4 door hardtop carries 6......

You always have the option to go as Matt has with more descriptive plates ("he has "EV1L 57") or see if you can reproduce the original US registration.

or go with the book version of the rego............

You can always go with "SURVIVOR", "ORIGINAL" or even "CQB 24I" .

As for "HY-6241-J" I think that it is too long. I am pretty sure you are only allowed to have 8 letters/numbers/spaces

Can you just make up the number plate over there???

Best number plate I ever came across was when I met Randy Bachman (Bachman Turner Overdrive) in Vancouver in the early 1990's - he was a property developer then and had a black Range Rover with "BACHMAN" reg.

How about "CQD 124" for a Titanic affiliation???

LIKE THAT....................

If you could find it, COB 241 would be the best UK equiv.

Unfortunately, 2 can be "R", 4 can be A and a 1 can become an exclamation with the bolt in the right place.

Therefore, this pretty much says COBRA! so no doubt it's on an AC somewhere.

Best plate I went after was EVL 581 Which doctored looked like EVL 58!

Here's some good plates on NewReg

CSK 241 (POA)
EVL 304 (1945)
BIG 58 (2635)
MIL 1958 (595)
GAS 350 (2575)
DJI 958 and JJI 958 that could be arranged to give you DJ 1958 and JJ 1958. (Both are POA)
