    Ozysteve's work

I thought it about time i shared with you guys the way i make my living.

I, along with two other English guys started the business up back in 1996. We three found ourselves unemployed one day and decided after a day or two that we wanted to give it a go on our own. Here we are 16+ years later, hair gone, over weight................and buying toys.

We make cabinets that control and monitor liquefied natural gas production plants as well as many other types of control equipment. We are a sub contracting company working for the main tendering companies in this field, we are just not big enough to be able to be the prime bidder.........big bucks, just to bid

we are presently contracted to build a complete LNG (LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS) plant for Papua new guinea. The whole of the control system. Its a huge project. I employ 23 people at the moment, although that does fluctuate, depending on workload.

Its good work and can be very trying.........working with engineering department and management......they have no idea about the nuts and bolts of building this type of thing.

Anyway.......here are a selection of pics. The guys you see in the photos wearing the Hi Vis vest with "MCM" on the back are some of my staff.....MCM PTY LTD is the company name........

Here you see the cabinets (grey boxes) installed in the equipment room. Some of the cabling has been run. The outside shot is of the equipment room itself. 18mtrs long and 4mtrs wide.

Wow! I though you just tended to garden gnomes all day, I didn't realize you actually worked!

Looks very complicated and high-tech. Which would equal some big headaches.

    Very neat stuff, though.
What does MCM PTY LTD stand for?

    Or should we guess?

    MCM are our initials

MCGOVAN CLARK (ME) MOORE...........The three owners of the business.

PTY LTD is proprietary limited......which is a tax talk for owned by the proprietors and limited by the number of shares

Steve, how do you start off getting a compnay like that going?

E.G. you'll need tooling, dies, presses, a workshop, knowledge of how to build those things etc.

When I was a kid I "invented" a clockwork electrical power supply.

Years later some guy created a clockwork Radio in his back shed and is now a millionaire.

Even if I had put my idea to work years ago, I've got no idea how I could've gone about it.
    Everything's good!

its hard work Lee.....very hard work. The amount of people that tell me it must be easy being your own boss is unbelievable, of course they have no idea.

We have tooling, but most of it is hand tools, we dont need dies or big machinery. Any we do need we sub contract out and mark up the dollars.

I have a workshop, we three built it back in 2010.......our building as well, not rented, which is great, cause we can do what we like there, about 9000 square feet of workshop all up.

If you want to start up a business, know your market and have some cash behind you..............because you will have many weeks with out income....and thats hard, especially with a young family. Best advice i could give to someone wanting to start off, is stck to what you know.....new ventures are hard and often fail.......know you skill and promote them......remember the customer is always right, even if they are not.

this is my factory, picture taken a couple of years back.......you can see my old black bike out the front. We were trying to rent out one half of the building back then..... you can see my caravan and some of the cabinets inside the right hand workshop

Wow! You're right next door to the world of plaster!!

Good advise, Steve. It's funny how many people think owning your own business is fluff. I always tell them I only work a half a day--any 12 hours I want!!
