Okay. FINALLY started doin something with the radiator support I got from John a few years ago. I took a wire wheel to it to knock off some of the loose rust, and then hit it with some rust converter.

I also cleaned up the undersides of the front fender stone shields. gave them the same treatment but also painted the bottoms as well since that was done a week ago.
What was neat is there was a glob of something that must have gotten stuck to the underside of one of the pans when the car was virtually new. I scraped it off and couldn't believe how nice the surface was. Man how I wish the whole car could have been like that!

Minty part! kinda hated to paint over it.

A picture a friend of mine took who went with me on the day we picked her up in Missouri. A full day and 1200 miles round trip.

Looks like she was well worth it. I have a picture of the day my car arrived. What a RUSH. And even more so when the 440 pulled in just growling.

Okay, so it took some finesse, but I finally got the old radiator support out and the new one set in place.
Now it would be a piece of cake without the lower mount installed, but even with the stud sticking out of the bottom I was able to change it out without removing fenders. Turns out if you spread the fenders slightly, you can slip the yoke in and out through the bottom.

The old one really was rotten

    Shiny new!

Course now I have the issue that the fenders don't line up with the yoke. I imagine the body mounts have settled over the years since the original rad support hasn't been holding anything up for decades, so we'll see how it goes. Changing body mounts is not an option.

Little more messin about with the car. (It's not easy with all the disruptions from mum, dogs, and neighbors).

The tab that holds the lower pan to the hood latch support brace was broken off. Of course I didn't realize this until after I sold the one from my parts car which was good.
Anyway, I had to fabricate a bracket since there was no way to reattach the broken piece as the metal is far too thin to weld, and I have no welder regardless.
I decided to use part of the original radiator support to repair the brace. Seemed more fitting to use part of my car to fix part of my car.

    No tab

    The piece I cut out

    I think this should suffice

I'm also contemplating painting the headlight panels black while the grille is off. I know it was more of a '58 thing, but I do think it looks better. Curious what your thoughts are.

    Good repair job!!

It's very common for that tab to be broken off.

Thanks John. I'm happy to repurpose something that would otherwise be discarded.

You know, it's your car. If you're curious as to how it will look like go for it. If you don't like it, you can always re-paint it back to the original color.

I opted to buy a can of the black FLEX SEAL liquid. My hope is that if I end up wanting to change it back, I can just peel it off.
