    Big M's '58 Belvedere, '58 Fury

These are the two cars I recently acquired , there is an interesting story behind them.

Last winter I was called by a lady to ask if I drove a red Fury and owned a business. I said yes, but why? She told me she was cleaning up her parent's property and wanted to sell a collection of Plymouth parts. It was only a 60 mile drive each way, so why not. Turns out, there were enough parts to completely load my truck up, with no room to spare. after cleaning the area up when the parts were loaded, she told me she had broken down near my shop, and snapped a photo of my '57 Fury. The photo remained on her mother's desktop for many years, so she decided to try to find me. Before I left, I noticed two covered cars parked in the adjoining carport, but she said they were not for sale at this time, they belonged to her mom, who was fighting cancer. I respected her wishes, and asked no more about them, I just said, "if they ever do come up for sale, I'll make a generous offer on them" I had mostly forgotten about the cars, but one day thought about calling her, but decided not to bother her if she was taking care of her mother [home hospice]. A few days later, though, she called me. Her mother had passed away, the roof on the house was leaking terribly, and she decided to sell the home, so the cars would have to go. They were in her brother's name, so he would have to decide. I asked if I could come down to inspect the cars better, as I hadn't lifted the covers before, then made an offer. She told me she would let him know, as the house was going on the market in one week. Nearly one week later, as it happened to be on the evening of my 56th birthday, he called to accept my offer.

These cars had been parked since 1985, when her father fell ill, then never ran since. I happened to mention this find to a good friend of mine, and he seemed to know a bit about them, saying he sold a '58 Belvedere to a couple in the early '80's for $300 and drove it there, and saw the Fury which he owned in the late seventies. My friend, Paul, said he bought the Fury from an old man at Shasta city, whose son bought the car new, but went to Vietnam and never came home, so the car set outside for about 8 years.

I rarely get any history on cars I buy, so this was just plain cool.

    '58 Belvedere coupe-

Paul was getting ready to paint this one when he decided to sell it to the folks in west Sacramento, which is why some parts are missing on the exterior. It is 100% rust free, though. I will be selling this one after I try to get it running.

Your stories are always interesting Johnny boy....Again, you scored well. I would like to see if you could put a small video together fixing one of the cars and getting it running.

Awesome find John! That Belvedere looks to be a real nice solid car, is the Fury comparable?

Awesome score! I love the stories as well. It is good the daughter had the where-with-all to remember you and try to find you--to find a good home for the cars and parts. Very interesting histories. Our cars are getting to the age where they have "sitting spells" for years at a time-good to see these two coming out of hibernation!

Sorry for their loss but glad they found someone to take care of those good looking cars they had.

I really like that sticker and since you never seen one I guess it is that rare of a find for them.

    LMAO!!!!

Yes, it's a power swivel seat from a '59. The unit does not move, so I'll have to do some spark-chasing to fix it.

Yes, Chris, I'll be keeping this one. Gradually fixing mechanical and electrical bugs so she can hit the road again.
